Current Pacific Time (PT)
Pacific Time is the westernmost zone of the contiguous United States, covering the West Coast states of California, Oregon and Washington plus Nevada and northern Idaho. It is home to Los Angeles, the tech industry of the Bay Area and Seattle, and Las Vegas. The zone is home to about 16% of the US population - roughly 53 million people.

- Nevada - the whole state in practice; only the towns of West Wendover and Jackpot unofficially keep Mountain Time to match neighboring Utah and Idaho
- Oregon - all except most of Malheur County in the far east, which uses Mountain Time
- Idaho - the northern Panhandle, including Coeur d'Alene, Moscow and Lewiston

"West Coast time" is three hours behind the East Coast. When it is 9 AM in New York it is only 6 AM in Los Angeles, which is why West Coast workers on national teams often start early and prime-time TV is broadcast on a three-hour delay. Alaska is a further hour behind Pacific and Hawaii is two hours behind (three in summer, since Hawaii skips DST).

Daylight Saving Time in the Pacific Time Zone
The whole zone observes Daylight Saving Time. Clocks move forward one hour at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March (PST becomes PDT) and back one hour at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November. In 2026 the dates are March 8 and November 1; in 2027 they are March 14 and November 7.
