Current Mountain Time (MT)
Mountain Time covers the Rocky Mountain states from Montana down to New Mexico. It is the least populous of the four contiguous zones but the one with the most exceptions: Arizona ignores Daylight Saving Time, and the zone boundary splits Idaho, Oregon, Nebraska, Kansas, the Dakotas and Texas. The zone is home to about 7% of the US population - roughly 24 million people.

- Arizona - the whole state, but Arizona does not observe Daylight Saving Time (except the Navajo Nation), so it matches Pacific Time in summer

The Arizona quirk is the source of endless confusion. From November to March, Phoenix is on the same clock as Denver (MST, UTC-7). From March to November, Denver springs forward to MDT (UTC-6) while Phoenix stays at UTC-7, which is the same as Pacific Daylight Time - so Phoenix matches Los Angeles in summer and Denver in winter. The Navajo Nation in north-eastern Arizona does observe DST, while the Hopi Reservation inside it does not.

Daylight Saving Time in the Mountain Time Zone
All of the zone except Arizona observes Daylight Saving Time. Clocks move forward one hour at 2:00 AM on the second Sunday in March (MST becomes MDT) and back one hour at 2:00 AM on the first Sunday in November. In 2026 the dates are March 8 and November 1; in 2027 they are March 14 and November 7.
